君をのせて Carrying You

They played jazz standards, as well as their originals as an instrumental band.

One of the pianist Michiko Uemura's compositions "BBB 〜 Baseball Blues" was especially interesting. It would turn the venue into Koshien Stadium, the ballpark in Kobe that is famous for the high-school baseball tournaments.

In addition, the bassist Sho Iwata whistled and scatted. Kakimoto made sounds by using a weird stick called "Cat's Paw" that is supposed to be a toy for children.

The singer Kaoru Azuma looked considerably surprised by their performance, but showed her stuff to finish the show in a neat way with the theme song for Japanese animation "Castle in the Sky".

The gig was enjoyable enough to inspire you to get through ordeals for the rest of your life.

Jun Izumi (vo) and Yuto Kanazawa (gt) played Bamboo Club in Osaka on July 7th, 2018

One day in New York, she found some flyers in a jazz club that said he would show up in the gigs.

After a while they formed a duo to play the music they like.

Their live performance in Japan premiered at the small venue in Osaka on the Star Festival night.

Jun Izumi got interested in jazz music under the influence of her uncle who had a lot of vinyl records.

She likes songs written by pianists among others as you can see the ones in the set list.

Yuto Kanazawa leads some bands that are active internationally. He also composes songs, one of which was introduced that evening.

His accompaniment on guitar was so gentle and sweet that Izumi looked quite comfortable with the sound. So was the audience, of course.

Japanese late 1970s pop song "異邦人", which means foreigner, was what came across Izumi's mind when she lied on the bed hearing children yelling in the nearby school in New York.

Jimmie Rowles' composition "The Peacocks" is one of the memorable songs for Izumi. She listened to Tierney Sutton sing it at Birdland, a jazz club in New York, on her birthday. She was so moved to run back home to learn the lyrics. Her singing was really convincing that night.

The arrangement of Thelonious Monk's "Pannonica" was amazing and soothing. It reminded the audience of Nica's generous patronage for the musicians at the time.

The show was entrancing enough to imagine Vega and Altair would meet over the Milky Way on the Tanabata night.

Chiaki Kanamori (pf) and Yukiko Makino (gt) played Cellar Bar Kent in Osaka on June 24th, 2018

It is another fun to listen to a duo of chordal instrumentalists play music from categories such as jazz and J-pop.

Pianist Chiaki Kanamori and guitarist Yukiko Makino demonstrated that their axes are certainly one of the combinations.

In addition to electronic piano, Kanamori played keyboard harmonica for some songs. She has blown it since kindergarten days.

She introduced her original "旅人", which means traveler. Her grandmother's nature-rich hometown inspired her to write the song. That sounded really grand.

Makino's "After The Rain" depicts the clear air and the smell after it stops raining, which are among her favorite findings in daily life.

She came to the gig with four compositions of her in total. All of them brought back memories, somehow.

They played not only their original songs but ones arranged by them. Their unconventional mode of expression was worth appreciating.
